Delonte West and Gloria James (LeBron James’ Mother) Sleeping Together? This Can’t Be!

NBA MVP Basketball

Basketball fans have been wondering since March Madness playoffs why LeBron James was not acting like his usual active and athletic self. I mean James is a star player. Everybody just loves to watch him. Terez Owens broke an exclusive story last night explaining a possibility as to why LeBron James started to play so apathetically in game 4 of the playoffs.

Here is what a close source of Terez Owens said ““My uncle is the general contractor at the Q and has been for the last 7 years. He’s good friends with a lot of guys at the Q, including some of the bigger boys in the organization and knows Dan Gilbert personally. My uncle has been told that Delonte has been banging Gloria James (Lebron’s Mom) for some time now. Somehow Lebron found out before game four and it destroyed their chemistry and divided the team. I am not making this up, I wish it wasn’t true but it happened…”

It is being reported that this affair between teammate Delonte West and Lebron James’ mother, Gloria James could have dramatically and negatively affected the playing prowess of LeBron James. It would certainly affect me. Not sure at this point if the rumors are true, but LeBron James has not come out and said that they are not true as of yet.

What do you think? Could the reason LeBron James played poorly so suddenly in the play offs be a teammate (Delonte West) sleeping with James’ mother Gloria James? I think it could be, but we will just have to wait and see if the rumor is confirmed by either Delonte West, LeBron James or momma Gloria James.

It’s snarky and salacious and gossipy and unsubstantiated and ridiculous and so I want to dismiss the absurd internet rumor of Delonte West having an affair with LeBron James’ mom, Gloria, outright and immediately.

But can you do it so completely?

When a divorce trial involving South Florida’s biggest star, Dwyane Wade, involves his ex-wife-to-be saying he gave her a sexually transmitted disease – and he, in turn, saying she gave it to him? When the former biggest star in South Florida, Shaquille O’Neal, got divorced here after a partying lifestyle he alluded to in a Sports Illustrated cover story?

When Dennis Eckersley admitted after his career that his former wife had an affair with teammate Rick Manning or it came out years later that U.S. soccer captain John Harkes was booted off.the '98 World Cup team for being with a teammate's wife? When a basketball coach once told me a big trade didn’t go through because a star player’s wife had slept with the team he was rumored to be traded to? But I can’t believe this LeBron story just because it's out there, either.

Not when this is the type of internet absurdity that crops up occasionally. Here are two examples as given in a Slate.com story:

• In 1996, the big rumor was North Carolina point guard Jeff McInnis was sleeping with assistant coach Phil Ford’s wife. John Feinstein even alluded to it in a book by saying Duke fans razzed him about “personal animosity” between the two. He was asked about it before the draft by the Orlando Magic. McInnis finally addressed it to the Charlotte Observer: “Nothing ever happened. She is often hugging players. … The Duke people blew the whole thing up.”

San Francisco coach Steve Mariucci asked Saints coach Jim Haslett about it during a post-game handshake, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Roaf told the paper the was the daughter’ s real father. Horn told ESPN: “We make mistakes sometimes, but that is one mistake Joe Horn did not make. I did not sleep with Willie Roaf’s wife.”

The Gloria James-Delonte West rumor says LeBron discovered their affair recently and that's why he was in a funk in Game 5 against the Celtics. Well, that's convenient. It also says that's why West's minutes were inexplicably reduced in the series.

True? Probably not. But if it is true, it just might rush LeBron out of Cleveland into the waiting arms of the Heat.
